Gyaru Lolita/Gal Lolita/ ギャルロリータ

Most people are probably familiar with what a Lolita Fashion is. Recently a lot of Gyaru have also been going to Lolita shops and wearing Lolita. They are called Gyaru Lolita. So how does Gyaru Lolita work and what's the difference between a Lolita and Gyaru Lolita??

Rule #1
Gal Lolita works best with pale coloured skin. This is because if you have tanned skin it will clash with the colours of your outfit.

Rule #2
Coordination is an important part towards Lolita Fashion. Everything must be coordinated to achieve a doll look. The best tip is to have everything one colour if you are still learning on how to coordinate.

Rule #3
Mannerisms. Because you are wearing such a cute outfit, you should not be loud or rude. Lolita mannerisms are very polite, you need not to follow Victorian lifestyle like most of them do, but good etiquette and manners do apply when you are wearing Lolita.

Rule #4 Unlike Lolita hair which usually seeks a natural style. Gyaru Lolita curls their hair and arranges them to add Volume. A general tip is just to arrange your hair like how Hime Gyarus(Big puffy hair) do. Then you finish it off with cute hair accessories.

Rule #5 Most Lolitas keep their hair black and natural. With Gyaru Lolita we are seeking the French Doll look so the recommended hair colour is Milk Tea.

Rule #6 For Gyaru Lolita, Gyaru Make up is a must!! Most Lolita usually have minimal natural looking make up but for Gyaru Lolita, you must have big eyes(how gals usually do their eye makeup pretty much) and pink cheeks and lips.

Gyaru Lolita Fashion Item Rules

Rule #1 Stick with on style! This means that if you decide to be a Gothic Gyaru Lolita today, stick with gothic Lolita items, if you want to be a Sweet Gyaru Lolita, stick with Sweet Lolita items. Do not mix the two.

Rule #2
Paniers/Petticoats must be worn to add volume to skirts/one-piece and jumper skirts.

Rule #3 Drawers must be worn inside the skirt

Rule #4 Head accessories are a must! Because when you have such an extravagant outfit, the head accessory is to give balance.

Rule #5 Do not wear shoes without socks!! Always wear socks or tights.

Gal Lolita Head accessories

#01 Ribbons
#02 Flowers
#03 Head dress
#04 Dolls / stuffed toys
#05 Mini Hat

With Lolita, head dresses and Ribbon headbands are worn straight in the middle of the head. With Gyaru Lolita, you can wear them to the side. Example (courtesy to sushi-cat.net)

Gyaru Lolita make up

Point #1 For base make up, make sure you cover up your pores so your skin is flawless to achieve a doll - like look.

Point #2
Use a brown gradient eyeshadow (It's like an eyeshadow box where you have a dark brown, medium brown, light brown and white. KATE's brown gradient shadows are very popular amongst gyaru in japan).

Point #3
Heavy Eyeliner to achieve big eyes.

Point #4 Wear fake lashes on the top and bottom. This can make your eyes look bigger.

Point #5 Wear Pink blush and lip colour to achieve the sweet look.

I translated this from the September issue of Vanilla where they did a feature on Gyaru Lolita. My Japanese is not very good so please forgive any errors, it's not a literal translation as I've added in a bit more information and tried to explain it a bit better.

Most Lolita in Japan has no idea what that is and they do not mind people who just wear Lolita for the fashion and not the lifestyle).

Man I haven't been on here for so long lol. But it's good to see that people are reading stuff and discussing about it =)

Himegyaru and Gyaru Lolita are two different styles but are often confused as one another by some people.

I haven't seen any tanned Hiime gals or gal-lolitas so I am not sure what they look like. I'm guessing from Vanilla's point of view they are trying to achieve the porcelain doll look?

i think it is my understanding that hime gyaru is not a form of lolita...lolita and gyaru are 2 separate fashions. i couldnt help but notice that you used the term "gyaru lolita". ive seen hime gyaru that are tan too...i dont think pale skin is a must.

I love gyaru lolita 8DD

However...
"Rule #3 Mannerisms. Because you are wearing such a cute outfit, you should not be loud or rude. Lolita mannerisms are very polite, you need not to follow Victorian lifestyle like most of them do, but good etiquette and manners do apply when you are wearing Lolita.#

Imho, this is not a must at all. You can still spit, shout, fart, and whatever you'd like in lolita, and I think it kind of applies to gyaruloli too? I don't like rude people, but I think personality should come before any kind of style...
